Elliptical Structure

Elliptical structur dari kata “Ellipsis” yang berarti “penghilangan”. Elliptical Structure mempunyai fungsi untuk menghilangkkan beberapa kata agar kalimat itu menjadi lebih sederhana atau lebih pendek tanpa mengurangi arti dalam kalimat tersebut.­­


A. So and too
    Used to combine two different subjects positive sentences and has a verb (verb) equal to the same grammar as well.
rule:
a. And so + aux / to be + subject
b. And subject + aux / to be + too
examples:
1. a. she studies English
    b. he studies English.
combined:
She studies English and so does he, or
She studies English and he does too.
2. a. I went to Bali.
    b. he went to Bali.
combined:
I went to Bali and so did he, or
I went to Bali and he did too.

B. Either and Neither
   Used to combine two negative sentences that have a different subject and has a verb (verb) the same in the same grammar as well.
rule:
a. And subject + negative aux / to be + either,
b. Neither + positive and aux / to be + subject.
examples:
1. a. she does not study English.
    b. I do not study English.
combined:
She does not study English and I do not either, or
She does not study English and Neither do I.
2. a. I did not not go to Bali.
    b. she did not go to Bali.
combined:
I did not go to Bali and she did not either, or
I did not go to Bali and Neither did I.

C. But
    Used to combine two different words but the same shape grammarnya (grammar).
1. a. I study English.
    b. She does not study English.
combined:
I study English but she does not
2. a. I do not study English.
    b. She studies English.
combined:
I do not study English but she does.
3. a. I can speak English.
    b. She can not speak English.
combined:
I can speak English but she can not.
4. a. I can not speak English.
    b. She can speak English.
combined:
I can not speak English but she can.

D. Either...Or And Neither..Nor
     Used for one person to object/verb
1. a. Rizal can speak Arabic
    b. Rizal can speak English
combined :
Rizal can speak Either Arabic or English
2. a. Rizal can't speak Arabic
    b. Rizal can't speak English
combined :
Rizal can't speak Neither Arabic Nor English
